Fabric baskets :: Stoffkoerbchen

A while ago we bought some white curtains from IKEA and I got the crazy idea not only to shorten them but also to change the way they are fixed to the curtain rail because I don't really like when they have eyelets that make them look like shower curtains... anyway it was such hard work because the fabric is much like canvas - but the good thing was that I was left with some nice white canvas offcuts. And if you ever wondered what to do with only 15 cm strips of canvas, here's a tipp for you: make spring fabric baskets! I made two of them and although they are not big enough to serve as a bread basket they are still useful for bits and bops in the sewing room or the bathroom. At the moment they are happily sitting in our hall and hold our keys. I lined them with spring colours, one in blue and one in green and they look so lovely together. 

Vor einer Weile kauften wir weisse Vorhaenge von IKEA und ich hatte die verrueckte Idee, nicht nur die Laenge zu kuerzen sondern auch die Aufhaengung zu aendern, da ich diese Metall-Oesen-Loseung nicht mag, die immer wie Duschvorhang fuer mich aussieht..... na jedenfalls war es wirklich Schwerstarbeit, da der Stoff etwa wie Segeltuch war - aber das Gute daran war, dass ich nun kleine Stuecke Segeltuch uebrig hatte. Und falls ihr Euch je gefragt habt, was man mit 15 cm schmalen Segeltuchstreifen anfangen kann, dann habe ich einen Tipp fuer Euch: Fruehlings-Stoff-Koerbchen! Ich habe gleich zwei gemacht und obwohl sie nicht so gross sind, um als Brotkorb zu dienen, sind sie dennoch aeusserst nuetzlich fuer dies und das im Naehzimmer oder Badezimmer. Im Moment wohnen sie bei uns im Flur und dienen als Schluesselablage. Ich habe sie in Fruehlingsfarben gefuettert, eins in blau und eins in gruen, sehen die nicht toll aus?

Little Sailor's Scarf :: Schal für kleine Leichtmatrosen

This was just a quick knit to use up some stash yarn. The "pattern" could not be easier: Cast on 16 stitches, knit every row, change colours every two rows. I made a little slit so you can slide one end through to avoid having to make a knot. And voilà: a super cute scarf in a maritime look. The yarn doesn't contain any wool, so easy for mums to throw into the washing machine. I made it for my little nephew and he was very happy with his new scarf!

Dies hier ist nur ein kleines Zwischendurch-Strickprojekt, um etwas Wollvorrat abzubauen. Das "Muster" könnte einfacher nicht sein: 16 Maschen anschlagen, jede Reihe rechte Maschen stricken, alle zwei Reihen die Farbe wechseln. Ich habe noch einen kleinen Schlitz reingemacht, damit man ein Ende durchfädeln kann und keinen Knoten machen muss. Und voilà: ein super suüßer Schal im Matrosenlook ist fertig. Das Garn enthält keine Wolle, so dass Mama es bedenkenlos in die Waschmaschine werfen kann. Der Schal ist für meinen kleinen Neffen, der sich riesig darüber gefreut hat!

Cathedral Windows Pillow :: Cathedral Windows Kissen

 

Finally, my cathedral window pillow, of which I showed you a preview in this post, got finished at the weekend. Although I find the process a little time consuming, I think the result was worth all the effort. The worst part for me was to iron al the squares. I used this great tutorial from House of A La Mode. The best part for me was to choose the fabrics that go inside the windows. I settled on a blue, green, brown colour scheme and I love their fresh appearance when they sit next to each other. 

The pillow is a belated Valentine's day present for my boyfriend hence there's no pink or any other girlish colour in there. It will now live on a white armchair in our bedroom and will be one of the first things we see in the morning ;-)

The other good thing is that it got finished just in time to participate at the Stitched in Colour february pillow party and the great sew mama sew pillow contest

I look forward to seeing all the other entries, and probably far too much inspiration for future pillows....

Endlich ist mein Cathedral-Window-Kissen, wovon ich Euch schon eine kleine Vorschau gezeigt habe, am Wochenende fertig geworden. Obwohl ich den Prozess etwas zeitintensiv finde, denke ich doch, dass das Resultat die ganze Mühe wert war. Der schlimmste Teil für mich war, die ganzen Quadrate zu bügeln. Ich habe diese tolle Anleitung von House of A La Mode benutzt. Der schönste Teil allerdings war, die Stoffe für die Fenster auszusuchen. Ich habe mich schließlich für blau, grün und braun entschieden und ich mag diese Frische der Farben, wenn sie nebeneinander sind. 

Das Kissen ist übrigens auch ein verspätetes Valentinstagsgeschenk für meinen Freund, daher gibt's auch kein pink oder andere Mädchenfarben in dem Kissen. Das Kissen wird seinen Platz in einem weißen Sessel in unserem Schlafzimmer haben und wird eines der ersten Dinge sein, die wir morgens sehen ;-)

Die andere coole Sache ist, dass das Kissen rechtzeitig fertig geworden ist, um noch an der Stitched in Colour Pillow Party im Februar und dem großen Kissenwettbewerb bei Sew Mama Sew teilzunehmen.

Jedes genähte, gehäkelte oder gestrickte Kissen, das in den letzten drei Monaten fertiggestellt wurde, darf mitmachen. Ich freu mich schon, all die anderen zu sehen, und vermutlich viel zu viel Inspiration für noch mehr Kissen.... 

175 squares :: 175 Quadrate

well, roughly, because I shortly lost count when someone interrupted me while I was arranging and counting all my cut fabric squares. Anyway, they will eventually become a maritime summer quilt, my first ever quilt btw, one that I imagine snuggling under on a breezy summer night while knitting in the garden. But since I want it to be a proper size, I think I'll need just a few more...stay tuned!

Naja, so ungefähr, denn ich hab mich kurz verzählt als ich meine liebevoll geschnittenen Quadrate sortiert habe. Jedenfalls  wird das mal ein maritimer Sommerquilt, mein erster übrigens; einer von der Sorte, unter den man sich an einem kühlen Sommerabend beim Stricken im Garten kuscheln kann. Aber da ich gern eine ordentliche Größe hätte, brauche ich wohl noch ein paar mehr Quadrate... Fortsetzung folgt!

Oh happy day

Sometimes I join a giveaway just for fun, but never really won anything... that was until last wednesday. I won this fabulous fat quarter set from the Volksfaden blog. Gelegentlich mache ich ja bei einem giveaway mit, aber ich habe bisher noch nie was gewonnen.... bis letzten Mittwoch. Da habe ich dieses phantastische Fat-Quarter-Set vom Volksfaden blog gewonnen. Volksfaden ist nicht bloß irgendein Online-Stoffladen, sondern ein richtig cooler. Dort zu gewinnen war also noch viel besser. Die Stoffe kamen heute schon an, sind sie nicht zauberhaft? Another Clutch bag :: Noch ein Abendtäschlein

This is a bag that I have made for a very good friend of mine in the UK. It became a kind of "tradition" to send handmade gifts for birthdays and this year I thought maybe a clutch bag would be nice because she likes to wear beautiful dresses in summer. This time I chose a blueish kind of taffeta fabric which is by the way very difficult to photograph, especially if the bag gets finished late at night and needs to be send off the next day to arrive in time, so only artificial light is available. The lining is a light-blue and white striped cotton and it has a little pocket inside for credit card, mobile phone etc. Unfortunately the bag turned out a little smaller than my original one but that was because I forgot to add seam allowance :-) But that happens when you quickly draft a pattern and then forget to write any information on it... Anyhow, the bag was still received with great happiness and that really all that counts for me.

Dies ist ein Täschlein, das ich für eine sehr gute Freundin in England gemacht habe. Es wurde zu einer Art "Tradition" handgemachte Geschenke zum Geburtstag zu versenden und dieses Mal dachte ich, dass eine Abendtasche vielleicht nett wäre, da sie im Sommer gern wunderschöne Kleider trägt. Dieses Mal habe ich einen blauen/petrolfarbenen Taft gewählt, der übrigens sehr schwierig zu photographieren ist, besonders wenn das gute Stück erst spät abends fertig wird und am nächsten Tag schon in der Post sein muss, um rechtzeitig anzukommen und daher nur künstliches Licht zur Verfügung steht. Das Futter ist ein hellblau/weiß gestreifter Stoff und innen ist noch eine kleine Tasche für Kreditkarten, Mobiltelefon etc. Leider ist die Tasche am Ende etwas kleiner geworden als meine Originaltasche, weil ich vergessen hatte, die Nahtzugabe zu brücksichtigen :-) Aber das passiert halt, wenn man schnell ein Schnittmuster entwirft und dann vergisst, irgendwelche Infos zu vermerken.... Wie auch immer, die Tasche wurde trotzdem mit großer Begeisterung in Empfang genommen und das ist es ja eigentlich für mich, worauf es ankommt.

Gifts :: Geschenke

These are two little presents for my auntie just to say thank you for a lovely and unexpected Christmas gift. I know, a little late, but then it will be a surprise for her and hopefully bring a smile to her face. I made a pincushion and a travel sewing kit. For the travel sewing kit I got my inspiration from Rashida from "I heart linen". I haven't got her book "I love patchwork" yet, but it is on my wishlist since I first saw it. Since I didn't have the pattern, I had to just wing it, but I quite like the result.

Dies sind zwei kleine Geschenke für meine Tante, einfach um Dank zu sagen für ein tolles unerwartetes Weihnachtsgeschenk. Ich weiß, ein bisschen spät, aber es wird ja eine Überraschung für sie und wird hoffentlich ein Lächeln in ihr Gesicht zaubern. Also ich habe ein Nadelkissen gemacht und ein Reise-Nähset. Für das Nähset habe ich mich von Rashida von "I heart linen" inspirieren lassen. I hab' zwar noch nicht ihr Buch "I love Patchwork" aber es ist auf meiner Wunschliste, seit ich es das erste Mal sah. Da ich nicht das Muster hatte, musste ich mich so durchwurschteln, aber das Resultat gefällt mir ganz gut.

Fingerless Mittens :: Stulpen

This is the first pair of fingerless mittens I ever made. I think they will be useful for the time between winter and spring, when you still want to have somethings war around your hands and wrists to stop the cold wind climbing up your sleeves but also want your hands free when looking for keys in your bag etc. I chose the Cafe au Lait Mitts to avoid boredom and used Drops Merino which was a pleasure to knit with. It is slightly thicker than the Lana Grossa Merino, but very lovely as well (and a bit cheaper).

Dies ist das erste Paar Armstulpen / fingerlose Handschuhe (wie heißen die eigentlich richtig?), das ich gestrickt habe. Ich denke, dass sie ser nützlich sein werden in der Zeit zwischen Winter und Frühling, wenn man immer noch was warmes um die Hände braucht und etwas, das die Handgelenke bedeckt, damit sich der Frühlingswind nicht einfach die Ärmel hochschleicht, und wenn man aber trotzdem gern die Finger frei hätte, um nach den Schlüsseln in der Handtasche zu suchen etc. Ich habe die Cafe au Lait Mitts ausgewählt, um Langeweile beim Stricken zu vermeiden, und Drops Merino Wolle, die sich toll stricken lässt. Sie ist etwas dicker als Lana Grossa Merino, aber auch sehr zu empfehlen (und etwas günstiger).

Manly Mittens :: Handschuhe für den Herrn

These mittens were finished some time ago, but not quite in time for our winter vacation in the Czech Republic. But since winter came back again here in Germany, they still could be useful. The pattern was very easy and with the thick yarn they knit up very quickly.

Diese Handschuhe sind schon seit einer Weile fertig, doch waren leider nicht ganz fertig für unseren Winterurlaub in Tschechien. Aber da der Winter hier in Deutschland ja noch mal zurückgekehrt ist, könnten sie noch ganz nützlich sein. Das Muster war super leicht und mit dem dicken Garn ganz schnell gestrickt.

Pincushion :: Nadelkissen

Here's a sneak peek of what I am working on at the moment and you'll see the finished result soon. It's a cathedral window cushion and as you can see, lots of pins are required. This is when I noticed that I had made lots and lots of beautiful pincushions for everybody else but I still had an old one. So I just made one for myself and I think I will make more of them soon. I love quick and easy and good looking and practical projects!

Hier ist eine kleine Vorschau dessen, woran ich gerade nähe und das fertige Resultat werdet Ihr hoffentlich bald sehen können. Es ist ein Cathedral-Window-Kissen und man benötigt viele Stecknadeln. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass ich ganz, ganz viele Nadelkissen für alle anderen gemacht habe, aber selbst immer noch ein altes benutze, Also hab ich mir schnell selbst eins gemacht und ich denke da kommen noch ein paar hinzu. Eins an der Nähmaschine, eins an der Schneidematte, eins am Bügeltisch.... Ich liebe schnelle und einfache und gut aussehende und praktische Projekte!
