Knitting gift tags :: Geschenkanhänger für Gestricktes

In my last post I mentioned that I really enjoy knitting. And most things I knit are for other people. And when I take the time to knit something for somebody else I want to make sure that they know how to care about that new scarf or socks... I found that just to tell them not to throw it in the washing machine or dryer is not enough, too often it is forgotten very soon. To give them the wool label is also not very stylish. So I thought of a nice way of combining a gift tag and care instructions and came up with these little gift tags. There is a space for your name and the recipient's name as well as several boxes with care symbols that you can just tick. And at the bottom there are two notches so you can wind some spare yarn in case a button needs fixed or a hole closed. If you like the idea, I plan to sell them in my shop soon in sets of four eight.

A thought on ... crochet :: Ein paar Gedanken zu... Häkeln

Out of the both - knitting and crocheting I have always preferred knitting. Mainly for its look. Mostly i think knitted items look more modern and timeless. But I do crochet sometimes. I think it's great for amigurumi and granny square blanket. Other than that I find there is always a slight granny touch to it. And I don't like doilies even though they seem to be very popular at the moment. As much as I admire the crocheting skills behind it, I would never put a doily anywhere in my home. Ok, this was before I saw this:

One giant doily made out of cotton rope. In fact the rope is so thick that there is no crocheting hook in that size. So Jean Lee, who has made this rug, crocheted with her bare hand, can you belive it? I think this is one very stylish rug and that doily would be very welcome in my home. Now it gets even better: This rug is featured in a new book, called "Crafting a meaningful home". You can have a look inside here. Now I just need one giant spool of cotton rope and about four weeks with nothing else to do...

Back to crafts ::

After a long, long break from being crafty (due to our move from Thuringia to the North of Germany) I was finally able to some sewing again, just for fun. And on that quiet and peaceful Sunday I produced some lavender sachets. I had a bunch of lavender which is beautiful, but in reality quite a mess when it is just sitting on the shelf and losing flowers. But kept in sachets, the smell is even intesified (probably through the chopping) and they are actually useful and would be a perfect gift for grandmas, mothers etc...
