Norwegian Mittens :: Norweger-Handschuhe

I have always adored stranded colourwork in knitting - norwegian pullovers, fair isle patterns, latvian mittens - all beautiful to me. But knitting them... a whole other story. I have done it before but never enjoyed it because I didn't know how to hold the yarn. The two threads always got twisted and I had to undwind them every few rows... a very time consuming thing. But the ladies from the Lanade knitting group were so helpful and showed me a few tricks. Who knew that it could be so easy. Still, I had to unravel a 3/4 finished mitten because the fabric was really uneven. But now I think I can be optimistic for stranded knitting.
For my practising project I chose a free pattern from Drops and Drops Alpaca woll in green and natural. And even they're a little big for my tiny hands, I like them very very much :-) More snow please!

Red patchwork pillow No. 2 :: Rotes Patchworkkissen Nr. 2

This is the second pillow for my little red winter series of pillows. This time I made it with scraps from different linen and red scraps using my preferred technique for quick patchwork results. The back is big red vichy. I even made a red piping!

Blanket finished! :: Meine Decke ist fertig!

I finished a blanket! I still can't believe that. I always thought people who tackle such a large project must be some kind of crazy. But here it is, finished a few weeks ago. The knitting actually went really quick because of the bulky yarn and the 8 mm needles. It took me less than three weeks to complete. I already sent it to my granny and she was over the moon because it came as a complete surprise for her. She loves the pattern and will hopefully use it very often.

The pattern was Umaro by Jared Flood of Brooklyntweed and I can highly recommend it. The instructions were very clear and never left you in doubt. You can also modify the pattern if you want a smaller or bigger blanket. I didn't do any modifications and cast on 115 stitches. After it was finished I followed the instructions and pinned it down and steam ironed it. That relaxed all the stitches and the blanket grew considerably from about 90 x 110 cm to 120 x 130 cm.
Look, I made a little label to go with it, too.
