Hello, while I haven't made much progress on my new quilt, I managed to do the binding. Normally this would be one of the last steps because I like to know how big the quilt will be in the end and then calculate and cut the binding accordingly. But the other day, I really fancied doing some fiddly work and so I cut strips of the various fabrics that I used for the half square triangles and then sewed them together, folded the strip in half and secured it with a zig zag stitch along the open end. The strip is more than 6 m long and I think it just looks delicious when it is rolled up like that :-) What about you, have you recently made anything that just could not wait and had to be done right now, just for the joy of it?
Hallo, ich hab zwar noch keine Fortschritte an meinem neuen Quilt machen koennen, doch ich habe schon mal das Binding (auf deutsch Einfassband?) gemacht. Eigentlich wuerde ich diesen Schritt erst ziemlich am Schluss machen, denn ich weiss vorher ganz gerne wie gross der Quilt wird und dann kann ich die Laenge entsprechend berechnen und zuschneiden. Aber neulich hatte ich richtig doll Lust auf ein bisschen Fummelarbeit und so habe ich also Streifen der verschieden Stoffe zugeschnitten, die ich in meinen Half Square Triangles benutzt habe. Dann habe ich die zusammengenaeht, schoen mit 45-Grad-Naehten, der Laenge nach zur Haelfte gefaltet und die offene Kante mit einem Zick-Zack-Stich gesichert. Das Band ist ueber 6 m lang und ich finde es sieht einfach koestlich aus, wenn es so huebsch aufgerollt ist und auf seinen Einsatz wartet :-) Wie sieht's bei Euch aus? Habt ihr kuerzlich was gemacht, was einfacht nicht warten konnte und sofort erledigt werden musste, einfach so aus Spass?
This is the second pillow for my little red winter series of pillows. This time I made it with scraps from different linen and red scraps using my preferred technique for quick patchwork results. The back is big red vichy. I even made a red piping!
Dies ist das zweite Kissen für meine kleine rote Winterserie. Ich habe es diesmal aus Reststücken verschiedener Leinenstoffe und roter Stoffe gemacht mit meiner Lieblingsmethode für schnelle Patchworkergebnisse. Die Rückseite ist einfach großes rotes Vichy-Karo. Und eine rote Biese gibts diesmal auch drumrum. Hach, da fehlt mir nur noch die Berghütte ;-)
This little pillow was meant to be part of a christmassy series of pillows but I only got round to do it in January and it still is alone, meaning I plan to make another two or three pillows with a nice wintery red and woll and perhaps linen colour palette. But anyway, it was great fun to make the pillow, completely improvised. I especially like the little matryoshka in the centre of the nine patch. I made this block with the incredible fast methos I explained in my tutorial here. I think I caught the patchwork bug again... This time I made an almost invisible zipper closure, very professional!
And look, doesn't it look great together with the Umaro blanket? (more on that in my next post, bare with me ;-) )
Dieses kleine Kissen war eigentlich als Teil einer kleinen Weihnachtskissenserie geplant, um unsere Küchenbank während der Weihnachtszeit zu zieren. Allerdings bin ich erst im Januar dazu gekommen und außerdem ist es bis jetzt auch noch allein, d.h. es sind noch so zwei, drei Kissen in einer schönen winterlichen roten, wolligen und vielleicht Leinen Farbpalette geplant. Jedenfalls hat es großen Spass gemacht, das Kissen zu nähen, völlig improvisiert übrigens. Besonders mag ich die kleine Matroschka in der Mitte des Neunerblocks, den ich übrigens mit der unglaublich schnellen Methode gemacht habe, die ich hier in meinem Tutorial genauer erläutert habe. Ich glaube, ich habe mal wieder mehr Lust auf Patchwork ;-)
Diesmal habe ich einen fast unsichtbaren Reißverschluss eingenäht, sieht sehr professionell aus!
Und seht mal, passt es nicht fabelhaft mit der Umaro-Decke zusammen? (Mehr davon dann in meinem nächsten Post, habt Geduld, Mädels! ;-) )
